New equipment has now moved to newer refrigerants like R-454B, and R-410A is starting down the same road R-22 traveled: legal to keep running, gradually more expensive to service. A healthy R-410A system is absolutely worth keeping and repairing. But a 13 year old R-410A unit with a leaking evaporator coil is the classic replace-not-repair case, because you would be paying today's rising refrigerant prices to fill a system that will leak again.
